B/W: A CATALOG OF CALLIGRAPHIC ECSTASIES

Dear Brody,

I’ve just received your book. It’s absolutely extraordinary. I think it’s the best thing that’s ever been published. Really.

The black and white are deeply intense and really bring out the best in your writing. You switch from exquisitely polished calligraphic writing to a wild, free-flowing style with incredible ease.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this brilliant publication.

Best regards, DL

BRODY WRITES BLACK WHITE is absolutely sensational. I have been looking through it, and I am deeply impressed — not only by the incredible variety of your work, but also by the freedom of thought and the spirit of exploration that seem to run through every page. What fascinates me is the way you go far beyond calligraphy as the art of beautiful writing. In your work, letters become images, lines become gestures, and writing becomes a language of its own — sometimes readable, sometimes mysterious, but always full of life and expression.

Bringing thirty years of exploration, experimentation and artistic development together in one book is an extraordinary achievement. What I admire most is your willingness to question conventions and to keep pushing the boundaries of what calligraphy can be. Thank you for sharing so much of your artistic journey with us. Your book will have a place of honour in my library, and I know it is one I will return to again and again — not just to find inspiration, but to discover something new each time. It is a privilege to have such a remarkable collection of your work in my hands, and to have an artwork of yours to accompany it makes it all the more special.

Thank you for creating and sharing something so generous, thought-provoking and inspiring.

With warmest wishes, SH
